I wish I could make excuses as to why I haven't posted a blog in a while but the truth is the holidays came and went and well I just never found the time to sit down and do it. So here is a major blog that will catch you up on the last few months of the Wigmore household.
First thing is Thanksgiving! We had Thanksgiving at Bill and Gerry's house this year. I guess you could say we had two Thanksgivings this year. The weekend before Pat and Sara came out to visit for the holidays. Great Aunt Mary requested pot roast so that's what we had. They even brought her home so she could join in and see the newest member to our growing family Sadie!

On the real holiday Joel's parents came into town a long with my mom (Tammy) and Shane. The table was extra long and some of us even sat outside with the kids, lucky for us the weather was gorgeous. Matt and I talked about how Thanksgiving would sure be at hit with Ethan this year because everything that was being made we were sure would become a favorite. Sweet potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie... but funny enough he surprised us all with a new love cranberries! This year we had no major disasters with any of the dishes, which is a bit of a shock because most holidays you can't go without something being a little brown or crispy. Maybe that is why there was few leftovers, because we stuffed ourselves.

The rest of the weekend we enjoyed having my mom and Shane here. We went out and got a bunch of Christmas lights for the outside and Shane and Matt climbed up on the roof and hung them all. I think we were the first of the neighborhood to get them up! Ethan got spoiled with a new set of foam blocks from Mimi, and a CAT ride on tractor Uncle Shane got him. That night we couldn't stop laughing as we would build a structure and then Ethan would ride his tractor into it sending blocks flying. After, he would get off the tractor and walk around the house clapping and giving high fives.
The next weekend was my Christmas party at work. So as an early birthday present Shane surprised Matt and I and got us a room at the Country Club Resort it was being held at. Bill and Gerry agreed to take little man for the night, so we went out there a little early and got ready there. It was so nice considering it was pouring rain so we didn't have to worry about getting wet. We also had a friend from work and her husband come a little early and have a glass of wine. The party was very nice, first class all the way. The one thing I will say is that the band could have been more upbeat.. hey we all know I love to dance! One of the best parts was after it was over walking to the elevator and crashing, no long drive home for us (the place was 45 minutes away). The next morning as a part of our package we got to eat breakfast at a very impressive Sunday buffet. Even though we didn't go far I loved our little get away, THANK YOU to all that made it possible.

Our night out
|
My actual birthday came in a flash. Ethan was very sick and I had to work. My my stellar husband, even while managing a sick child managed to make me the best birthday dinner ever! I had told him I didn't want to go out to eat, but that I wanted him to surprise me with one of his delicious concoctions. To accommodate that I wanted candles and a bottle of wine. He had dropped me off at work that day in order to take Ethan to the doctor, so when he picked me up I couldn't figure out why he was in such a rush to get home. Of course it was the one night that was just full of traffic. I started to rack my brain to figure out what he could have cooked that he would be so worried about. When we got home I got hit with the aroma that made my noise lead the way to the kitchen. And there it was a perfectly cooked Turkey! Thanksgiving dinner was my birthday meal, and if you know me you will understand why I say it was the best surprise dinner ever. He had the table all set even Ethan's high chair had a place setting. Ethan didn't feel good and so we had to improvise a little and ended up eating it on the couch. But I say the meal was still a home run.

Saturday night was Christmas Eve, it was so nice to have Matt be a part of our traditions. One of my highlights of this Christmas was when my Cousin Jamie made Ethan laugh like I have never seen him. She kept singing him this song about Chillie Willie and he would laugh so hard he would throw his face down into the couch and laugh. Christmas morning we ate breakfast at my grandma Nancy and Papa Howies house. And then we went over to my mom's house and all of us opened presents there. Ethan of course had a ton of presents to open, but he had no interest in opening them not even ripping the paper. In our stocking we got a disposable razor (it still had all the safety stuff on) and he would hold it and take a little bowl he found and pretend to shave peoples heads. It was the funniest thing! We kept an eagle eye on him so he wouldn't hurt himself but it was pretty funny. The rest of Christmas was fulled with LOTS of food and conversations. In fact we almost didn't open presents because it got so late. The Fagundes stopped by and Ethan and Clarke got to play together. I wish we would have taken a picture of them together but it was fun to see the babies play.
